Mannville Sr. Royals Mixed Curling Team Are On To Provincials

Our Senior High mixed curling team has won their way into a spot at Provincials in Lethbridge March 2-4. The team consists of: Skip - Carter Babij, Third - Breanne Hyrhirchuk, Second - Nelson Shubert and Lead - Kastyn Konieczny.

Their journey started at districts in Vermilion where they played JR Robson, Holy Rosary, and Paradise Valley. They were undefeated and ranked first in the District 2.

From there it was on to Zones in Lamont. They played very well against Lamont, Two Hills, and JR Robson. Once again they were undefeated and finished first in their pool. Their semi-final game was against St. Paul. The Royals played well and even after a few close ends kept positive and finished strong. The win put them through to the gold medal play-off. After three tiebreakers to decide, it was Two Hills who they met to play for the gold medal.

It was a tight game, and after going into the 4th end break, the score was 2-1 Mannville. During the break Coach Konieczny talked strategy and positivity with the curlers. Once play resumed, the Royals came out on fire! The team never missed a shot and pulled away with the final score being 8-1 in 7 ends of play. It was GOLD for the Mannville Sr. Royals Curling Team. The 2017 Zones Mixed Curling banner will hang proudly in our gymnasium.

Thank you to all of the family and friends who came to cheer on the team. A very special thank you to community coach, Mr. Tim Konieczny for sharing his knowledge and leadership with the team.

Way to go Royals and good luck at Provincials in Lethbridge.
