The community gathered at the Vermilion Stadium on March 11, to witness the Stan Hartwell Memorial Award and the Heart and Hustle Award presentations.
In collaboration with the Vermilion Credit Union Midget Tigers game against Lac La Biche (Round 2, Game 1 of League Playoffs), the awards were presented.
The Stan Hartwell Award is traditionally presented to the most dedicated volunteer in Vermilion Minor Hockey. Nominated by the community or minor hockey participants, the recipient is then determined by the committee. The 2017 award was presented by the Hartwell family to Evan Carlson; Head Coach of the 2016 – 2017 Vermilion Credit Union Midget Hockey Team.
The 1967 Vermilion Kinsmen Heart and Hustle Award is given to a third-year player on the Tier I Midget team each year based on their talent as well as whether they have lots of heart and hustle, are one who demonstrates hard work, dedication, and are a role model on and off the ice. The 2017 award was presented by Ken Woywitka to Jarret Eyben.
