Under sunny skies and a gentle breeze members of the Communities in Bloom Donna Moon, Suanne Warawa, Kathy Brady and Janice Jones along with Town of Vermilion Councillor Rob Pulyk gathered in front of the Town of Vermilion welcome sign where they have a variety of red and white flowers planted on July 14. The red flowers are planted to form the shape of the Canadian Maple Leaf which has been a little stubborn thus far.

"I was hoping this would have been a little more of a show of the soon to come Maple Leaf, but hopefully it will be here by the time the judges come," said Moon.

The gathering was to announce the upcoming arrival of the Communities in Bloom judges Evelyn Alemanni from California and Jim Baird from New Brunswick who will arrive in town on July 23 and complete their judging on July 24.

The Communities in Bloom is an international organization, and the Vermilion Communities in Bloom are competing in the Canadian level of the Circle of Champions.

Communities in Bloom chair Donna Moon along with the other members urge everyone to make sure their properties are well groomed.

"Look at your neighbourhood and see what you can do, clean up a little bit, get a little weedwhacker going there. Make sure our community looks amazing," said Moon.

The Communities in Bloom will also be hosting a Garden Tour on July 19 at the 4600 block of 50th avenue from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. which will also include a light supper at the Lions Park.
