Lions-CNIB Golf Tournament

Vermilion Voice

Thirty-nine golfers participated in the 21st Annual Lions-CNIB Golf Tournament at the Vermilion Golf and Country Club on June 8. Participants were challenged by a blind putt and blind drive, and had the opportunity to win a $10,000 hole-in-one prize. They also had the opportunity to try on glasses that simulate macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. “Last year I got one of my best drives blind folded,” said participant, Sam Stewart. Proceeds from the event will be distributed with 50 per cent staying in the community for enhancing parks, and 50 per cent to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). “We would like to thank the 52 hole sponsors and 59 prize sponsors, as well as the participants for their support,” said Lions President Pat Calyniuk. Overall, golfers enjoyed the good weather and taking part in a worthwhile cause.
