Dewberry Community Hall – Grand Opening

Vermilion Voice

Approximately 100 dignitaries and community members attended the Grand Opening of the Dewberry Community Hall on September 8. County of Vermilion River Reeve, Dale Swyripa, congratulated the community on their new building and said, “A hall like this will bring the community together. There must be a real passion for your community to have a group make sure the plans come through to fruition.” Vermilion-Lloydminster MLA Dr. Richard Starke noted that after six and a half years, the building was on budget to the penny at $937,052.08. “We’re very happy that the province could contribute $300,000 towards the cost, with major contributions of community involvement and sweat equity. It is amazing what this community does relative to its population; this village punches way over its weight. The building is wonderful, but the most important thing is what get’s to happen inside; celebrations,” said MLA Dr. Starke. Greetings were also given by the Mayor of Dewberry, Ken Haney, and President of the Dewberry Hall Society, Rick Rewuski, thanked the community for their donations of time, money, and equipment, along with the village for donating the land, and the county for a grant of $25,000 and an additional $1,750 for fruit trees surrounding the hall. Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a meal, a raffle, and a silent auction. Appreciation gifts were given to members of the Dewberry Hall Society, along will other presentations. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place, and a declaration that the Dewberry Community Hall is officially open for business. People danced the night away with musical entertainment by The Prairie Dogs.
