Rain didn’t dampen the spirits at the 22nd Annual Lions-CNIB Golf Tournament held at the Vermilion Golf and Country Club on June 7. For the first time ever, participants were unable to golf due to the wet conditions, but the remainder of the event carried on. Community members were supportive of the cause and helping to benefit those with vision loss, with an estimated $6,000 raised. There were 51 hole sponsors and additional prize sponsors. “Over $110,000 has been raised since the tournament’s inception,” said Cliff Rolheiser. Proceeds from the event will be distributed with 50 per cent staying in the community for enhancing parks, and 50 per cent to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). “Everyone has been very understanding and very generous despite being rained out,” said Lion’s President, Pat Calyniuk. Overall, participants enjoyed taking part in a worthwhile cause.
