The music industry has taken a big hit with the COVID-19 pandemic. Without being able to have concerts or interact with fans on tours, artists like Aaron Pritchett have been spending a lot of time in the studio producing and recording music.
Pritchett recorded a touching single about organ donation called “Still, You Breathe”. It was performed with Ray Mussell, Founder of Mussell Records, and has been available worldwide, since April 7. “Still, You Breathe” was produced by Mussell, Pritchett, his son Jordan Pritchett, and future daughter-in-law Danielle Marie King at Bryan Adams Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, B.C. at the end of January. Jordan Pritchett and Danielle Marie King make up the dynamic duo, Cross Parallel and provided background vocals on the track.
“It’s been a tough year for many people, and even if I’m not performing and getting out with my fans, I’m thankful to still be creating music. This special track inspired all of us in the studio and the stories we’ve heard along the way have been incredibly special,” said Aaron Pritchett. “I am honoured to be a part of this, and I hope this song will enhance the momentum of the work that is being done to generate awareness about organ donation.”
The song was inspired by 2nd Chance Trail Ride Society founder, and double-lung transplant recipient, Morris Irvine. The lyrics were co-written by Ray Mussell and Sheila Moore; Moore is a friend of the Irvine family and Founder of Morcomm PR & Events.
“I connected with Ray last October to present the idea after being inspired by Morris’s story; fortunately, he was inspired and agreed to take it on. I sent over my draft and we started to work together – it has been a great experience; I am incredibly grateful to Ray, Aaron and everyone involved.” said Moore.
Pritchett and Moore worked together on the lyrics for a few weeks until they felt confident that they were conveying the right message. In addition to co-writing the track, Mussell also composed the music and funded the project.
“I’m so glad we did this; we experienced very profound emotions recording this song in the studio,” said Mussell. “It captures the perspective of gratitude that a transplant recipient feels towards their donor and it sends a heartfelt message to donor families – it is powerful!”
The song was revealed to Morris Irvine, his wife Fae, and Toby and Bernadine Boulet, on March 14. It will be accompanied with a music video including scenes from the recording session with all the producers and performers wearing the official Green Shirt Day shirts.
Fans will have the opportunity to hear “Still, You Breathe” live on May 8 at the Drive-In Concert in Elk Point, AB hosted by the 2nd Chance Trail Ride Society. Aaron Pritchett, Ray Mussell of Paradise Motel, Cross Parallel and rising star and fellow Albertan, Chantelle Mussell will perform a live show “Tunes & Tailgates” to raise funds for 2nd Chance Trail Ride Society.
