In a major breakthrough, Elon Musk’s company, Neuralink, has successfully put a brain-computer gadget into a person’s head. Musk shared the news on Twitter, saying the patient is doing well. Using this device they’ve detected promising signals from neurons, which is a big deal in the world of brain technology.
The Neuralink device is like a tiny high-tech coin that replaces a small piece of bone in the skull. It has super thin wires that go right into the head and connect to neurons directly. The goal here is to create a super smooth connection between your brain and computers. This could be a game-changer for treating brain issues and helping people with brain injuries.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given Neuralink the green light for human tests. Right now, they’re running a study to check if the implant and the surgery robot is safe and effective. Even though things look promising so far, we’re still figuring out if these coin shaped computers are totally safe and useful. When operating on otherwise healthy patients the tolerance for risk is much lower so there is no room for error.
Despite the early state of this tech, the first product from Neuralink has been tested. “Telepathy” is a brain-computer device that could let you control your gadgets just by thinking. It would give the user the magical ability to control your phone, TV and other devices just by simply thinking. This will become especially useful in assisting people who can’t use their limbs, control a robotic arm or even walk again.
While Elon Musk and Neuralink may be eager to get this tech out into the world and the first human trial has been successful so far, there are still too many risks to imagine the majority of people being willing to undergo the procedure. Brain injury, infection, headaches, nausea, and even seizures are just a few of the possible complications.
Despite these hiccups, Elon Musk is still gung-ho about exploring new frontiers and convinced that Neuralink will change many lives for the better. Elon’s big dream goes beyond helping people with disabilities; he wants to enhance the human experience and provide a new era of superhuman abilities to everyone.
