The Little Royal Rodeo that took place at the Lakeland College Equine centre from March 11-13 was a big hit.

On March 11, attendees had the opportunity to see the Western Canadian Judging competition which started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 12 noon. They were also able to attend the Ag-Citing event from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. or the equine demo from 2 to 3 p.m. and the ranch rodeo at 7 p.m. March 12 the day consisted of the the Stockman’s Steer and Heifer show in the morning, the Rodeo Slack in the afternoon and the Rodeo Performance in the evening with Bareback, Pole Bending, Tie Down Roping, Breakaway Roping, Saddlebronc, Goat Tying, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, and Team Roping. The final performance was the always popular Bull riding.

March 13 the action continued with Rodeo Slack in the morning finalized by the Rodeo Performance in the afternoon. The Cowboys and Cowgirls were in top form competing in the various events, and there was a good crowd who cheered the competitors on.

Ashley Watt, commented that, "Lakeland College Rustlers Rodeo Team were exceptional in the arena. The team took home six average championship buckles, Hi Point Cowboy and Reserve Hi Point Cowgirl.

Kyle Wanchuk, a second year AgriBusiness Student from Sherwood Park, AB dominated both ends of the arena. He finished the weekend as the average champion in both the Saddle Bronc riding and Tie Down Roping and was awarded the Overall Hi Point Cowboy.

The Rodeo team is off to Olds, AB for the next stop on the Canadian College Rodeo Tour."

The event average winners were: Bareback - Blake Link; Pole Bending - Traci Edmondson; Tie Down Roping - Kyle Wanchuk; Breakaway Roping - Kyla Gordon; Saddle Bronc Riding - Kyle Wanchuk; Goat Tying - Lexie Hollingshead; Steer Wrestling - Reid Regehr; Barrel Racing - Jamie-Lee Spady; Team Roping - Denton Dunham/Logan Groves; Bull Riding - No qualified rides.

Hi Point Cowboy - Kyle Wanchuk; Hi Point Cowgirl - Cheyenne Klepper; Reserve Hi Point Cowboy - Denton Dunham and Reserve Hi Point Cowgirl - Quincy Squair.
