The Vermilion Rotary Club once again showed its commitment to making a positive impact by extending a helping hand to a local organization. On December 6, Rotarians gathered to present a generous cheque of $7,500 to support the Vermilion Seniors center’s ongoing efforts to raise $50,000 for the replacement and refurbishment of specific areas of its floor.
Kirby Whitlock, the President of the Rotary Club, expressed the motivation behind this kind act, stating, “We wanted to support the Senior Centre because they do so much for our seniors in our community.” This gesture underscores the Rotary Club’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of life for the elderly residents of Vermilion.
This charitable spirit was not limited to the senior community alone, as just days before, on December 1, the Vermilion Rotary Club earned recognition for its continuous support of the Vermilion Tigers U9 team. The club was presented with a card of appreciation for their $600 sponsorship to the team. Whitlock emphasized the Rotary Club’s commitment to supporting minor hockey every year, saying, “Sports is so important to the children in the community and it’s a great way to help out a team.”
The Rotary Club’s outstanding contributions over the years did not go unnoticed by the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce, which bestowed upon them the prestigious Not-For-Profit Organization Award for 2023. This accolade is a testament to the club’s dedication and positive influence within the community.
In response to these honors, Whitlock humbly expressed gratitude, acknowledging the indispensable role played by the community. “We can’t do the work we do without all the support we receive from our community, so thank you to everyone who supports our efforts,” he remarked.
